1. It's One of Those Marketing Terms Which Will Disappear in Six Months
A metrosexual is a male in his 20s-30s who is single, lives in an urban area, has a lot of disposable income, style, and domestic skills (if you just met him you'd think he might be gay but he's not).

non-reflective "lux lights," cool Italian suits in Grey Silk......and maybe bald or Men's Hair Club candidate.....who reflects a cool demeanor......sort of hip in a Repug/Prep School/Maverick way?

Sort of a 60's dude gone corporate who is a Repug High Roller?????

Whatever.....the Picture conjured up Ari to me..........as the ultimate Metrosexual! Did I get that one correctly?

Meet the metrosexual
He's well dressed, narcissistic and bun-obsessed. But don't call him gay.

3. Excellent article
I agree with it whole-heartedly.
It exactly describes almost every guy I know in my age group and younger. At least, all of them who consider themselves "cool".

This sounds like when I used to read NYTimes Fall Fashion Supplement........

It's sort of narcissistic sounding, though. How can you be gay.......but not gay and not "bi-sexual?"

Oh well, whatever........Thanks for letting me in on this......I'm glad I asked!

On Edit: Three edits because "Culture" wouldn't type out from "brain to fingers" sorry.......:-(

13. Far Too Good! I Love It!
Metrosexual?

I'm a 6'1"" butch gay guy who drives a truck and lives in jeans and t-shirts. In fact, I am the stereotype lesbian.

My "metrosexual" gay employees call me a hobosexual since I disdain fashion.

Metrosexual: Someone who has sex with trains. God, I love that!

:hi: :toast:

Excerpt from Salon: and very honest......

How do I know? Well, perhaps it takes one to know one, but to determine a metrosexual,
all you have to do is look at them. In fact, if you're looking at them, they're almost certainly
metrosexual. The typical metrosexual is a young man with money to spend, living in or within
easy reach of a metropolis -- because that's where all the best shops, clubs, gyms and
hairdressers are. He might be officially gay, straight or bisexual, but this is utterly immaterial
because he has clearly taken himself as his own love object and pleasure as his sexual
preference. Particular professions, such as modeling, waiting tables, media, pop music and,
nowadays, sport, seem to attract them but, truth be told, like male vanity products and
herpes, they're pretty much everywhere.

For some time now, old-fashioned (re)productive, repressed, unmoisturized heterosexuality
has been given the pink slip by consumer capitalism. The stoic, self-denying, modest straight
male didn't shop enough (his role was to earn money for his wife to spend), and so he had
to be replaced by a new kind of man, one less certain of his identity and much more
interested in his image -- that's to say, one who was much more interested in being looked
at (because that's the only way you can be certain you actually exist). A man, in other
words, who is an advertiser's walking wet dream.

How much do we need to read beyond.......? Maybe much more???? :eyes:
