DeanLink, the new campaign tool!
Get a load of it! Ten times better than Get Local and related to friendster!
http://deanlink.deanforamerica.com/?r=68
Also, if anyone is a Dean supporter and has PhP skills or graphic design skills and is willing to donate skills and time to the campaign (a staffer I know needs some help getting the some computer tools up), please reply to this thread.
Kind Regards,
Jonathan K-T
P.S. To DUers, sorry about my absence, I've been 100% Dean for a while :)

5. Dean is great on the internet, he owns that demographic
Even though I am not a Dean fan, I have to give the campaign credit for doing the internet thing right, for the first time in an election campaign - way to catch up with the radical lefties that have been doing this for 10 years. :)

I expect most 18-40, middle to upper middle class, white, non-conservative voters to vote for Dean in the primary, and if he wins it, the general election as well. Kudos to the campaign manager, you people are top-notch, hope the Democratic party gets more of you! I just wish you people had done this for a true progressive like Kucinich. Your skills could have made him very electable.

9. You slightly mistake how the internet thing happened for Dean
To a very large extent, the internet found Dean. Oh, yes, indeed, Trippi et.al. were very quick to jump on it, and extend it. But it was people spontaneously organizing themselves at MeetUp.com that got their attention. THEN they grabbed it, and ran with it.

The secret of Dean's success is not JUST their savvy use of the internet -- it's the candidate and the message. Add the internet and you have a very winning combination.

14. The candidate is typical, the message is vague
Be honest, Dean is another elite American, born into wealth and priviledge, but smart enough to know what to do with it. He's no different than most of them. He looks okay on TV.

Dean's "message" feels like it's tailor made for me, a Democratic voter 18-40, middle class, non-conservative. He's great on gun rights too, just enough to appeal to my macho side, but not enough to scare away my girlfriend. Of course he's right on all of the social issues, I'm sure the campaign is in talks with Viacom to do an MTV appearance to prove Dean's hip with the young voters. He could do a joint appearance with Snoop Dogg and the leash girls, and tell us what kind of underwear he wears - that's good for 10,000 votes.

Dean loses me with his neo-liberal economic theories, but perhaps I'm in the minority here. In my demographic most of us have drank to kool-aid so to speak.

He's said a lot of good things about unions and trade. If he wins the primary, I'll certainly vote for him unless he double-crosses us. I've changed my mind about Dean, I think he's electable, as long as he doesn't screw it up.

6. trying to get away from MeetUp.com
I think TeamDean is working to get out from under the thumb of MeetUp's fucked-up business model. A friend of mine is big in the LA4Dean scene, and tells stories about how meetings are frequently scrapped by the venue operators at the last minute leaving them high and dry. For instance, a restaurant's manager signed up to be a MeetUp host, and so the Deaners chose that spot for a meeting -- the day rolls around, and the OWNER is there (who's a total Republican) and tells the Deaners to take a hike.

Here in my little Ohio burg, we had a MeetUp at a Starbucks, but between the grinders, frothers, and the loud music they refused to turn down, we could barely hear the speaker.

MeetUp will only have meetings at venues where the hosts pay, which only means bars and restaurants where Deaners can buy stuff, rather than the local groups being able to hold a meeting in a proper conference room or auditorium.

MeetUp likes to think that they built Howard Dean, when the exact opposite is closer to the truth. I think DeanCorp. is working on returning MeetUp to the Harry Potter clubs and quilting circles it was designed for.

16. Not accurate
"MeetUp will only have meetings at venues where the hosts pay, which only means bars and restaurants where Deaners can buy stuff, rather than the local groups being able to hold a meeting in a proper conference room or auditorium."

Last month our Meetup (in Las Vegas) was at a library. It's now too small, though. :)

21. You're right, mine this month is going to be at a
Unitarian Church. Much larger and better parking than the coffee shop it had previously been at.

8. I'm on DeanLink
I also am sort of involved with the group you're recruiting for, but only as a guinea pig to test things. I haven't been able to offer much help, but it's a great group of people who are working on something VERY COOL! I've been testing the tools for quite awhile now.

At first I thought this was like DatingforDean, but now I get it. Great idea. And you're right, it could replace Meetup once it grows large enough.

Just sorta noticed the theme of thing around here :)...He's passionate and the most electable. I like most of his positions, and I like his ability to ignite grassroots support.

22. DeanLink is great: A personal testimonial
I signed up Sunday, before it was even publicized, thanks to an e-mail from the MarylandForDean Yahoo Group. And last night I received my first message from another local "Deaniac." The first Dean group is now being formed for this area (Southern Maryland), with plans underway for clipboarding/tabling and meetings.

Finding DeanLink was a godsend, since Meetup is pretty much usesless for those of us in smaller communities. The nearest Meetup group for me is Washington, DC, a 55-70 mile drive, depending on the venue. I tried e-mailing Meetup staff and urging them to start a local meetup locale -- even sent a list of prospective local venues -- but to no avail.

DeanLink allows Dean supporters -- anywhere -- to get together and starrt working to get Dean elected, without being hamstrung by the bureaucracy of the Meetup organization.
