"When the definition is changed I have to explain that I'm married to a woman."

Charles McVety -- President, Christian College

"God does not rule from the provincial court bench, or from the hallowed halls of Parliament. He rules from the kingdom of heaven and he is not about to change his mind to accommodate the changing whims of man."

Rondo Thomas -- Evangelical Association

1. Just one question:
When, in the eyes of the state, is a couple considered married?

(Hint: NOT when the minister says "I pronounce you...," NOT when the couple kisses, NOT when the couple exchanges names, etc.)

My point: "Marriage" is simply a very fancy, ceremonial way of announcing a legal binding of people from two different families. It IS NOT ordained by god (in the legal sense). So what the hell does it matter if two people of the same gender wish to be legally bound to each other?????????

I am SO WEARY of this stupid, stupid culture war!

considered to be married after they go through the
official ceremony that is permitted only after they
give Society the bucks for the license.

PS I'm sick of all of the bible-thumping done by
uptight, tightassed thumpers.

4. There is a difference

between being married by law and being married by the church. Sometimes people are married in the eyes of both and sometimes they are not.

Churches have the right to marry people who meet their particular set of criteria. For example, to be married in the Roman Catholic church at least one partner has to be an RC (use to be both had to be, but now you can get around that one.) Makes sense, why would you even want to get married in the RC, unless one you was RC?

However, the state should not be making moral judgements or deciding who should marry and who shouldn't based solely on sexual orientation. The state should only be in the business of recognizing legal unions.

5. You are right
I know of people who were married in their church but weren't legally married. The church was happy, and I guess the couples were too, though they didn't have the legal rights of a married couple (visitation rights in a hospital, etc, etc).
