War horrors on front page
Finally, some good coverage of the horrors of this stupid war.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram has a very large color pic in the middle of the front page today of a Marine (with a bandage on the stump that had been his right hand) holding his 3 year old son. See it at http://www.dfw.com/multimedia/dfw/wednesday.pdf

1. It's About Time
These types of photographs should be bombarding us daily. Not the pictures of Whistle Ass on an aircraft carrier.

:grr:

2. So if this amputee/soldier runs for office, GOP will call him a coward?

Hey, it worked in Georgia against Max Clelland!
On edit: Need I add, sarcasm off?

WASHINGTON — U.S. battlefield casualties
in Iraq are increasing dramatically in
the face of continued attacks by remnants of
Saddam Hussein’s military and other forces,
with almost 10 American troops a day being
officially declared “wounded in action.”

The number of those wounded in action,
which totals 1,124 since the war began in
March, is more than twice the number of
wounded in the Persian Gulf War in 1991.
The total increased more than 35 percent in
August — with an average of almost 10
troops a day injured last month.

With no fanfare and almost no public
notice, C-17 transport jets arrive almost
every night at Andrews Air Force Base outside
Washington, on medical evacuation
missions.
“Our nation doesn’t know that.”

5. Keep in mind that those totals are ONLY for those wounded in Iraq...
...and that it says nothing about those wounded and/or killed in Afghanistan.

Additionally, most of the very seriously wounded are being cared for in U. S. hospitals in Germany because they can not be moved any farther in their present condition. They will stay in this "limbo" status until they recover enough to be sent home via Andrews, or simply die.

6. Byrd said over 1400 wounded in his speech yesterday...
and that doesn't include DU exposure...long and short term effects.

4. Please note that it's really a Washington Post article...
...and that spells even more trouble for the Bushistas. Please remember that the Post is made up of reporters with much more of a conservative slant than they had during Watergate.

Here's my theory. The corporate powers, the ones that own the media, are not getting the return on investment in Georgie Porgie that they thought they would. The economy is one hurting puppy and they only got about 40-45% of the tax cut they were looking for.

Additionally, war has typically been very good for U. S. business concerns in the past because all kinds of military gear, weaponry, food, and fuel had to be manufactured to replace stuff used up and/or lost in the field. Major expenditures are extended toward the manufacture of new ships, tanks, and planes. The R&D boys really go crazy during a big war because the military wants new toys and they want them yesterday if not sooner.

This kind of Special Forces war is VERY bad for business...the only thing being produced in mass quantities are cruise missiles.

Bush has failed the corporate Big Dogs and they're about ready to pin him with the donkey tail.
