Moment of Silence in Texas
I don't know if you guys have already talked about this...I've been gone for 5 days, but did you guys see there was just a law passed in Texas requiring a moment of silence after the Pledge of Allegiance? If I wanted my (future) kids to get religion or be preached at I would take the to church. Kids go to school for education...not to get religion or to pray...if they want to pray, let them do it on their own time...don't be interupting class to do it. I'm sure this will be overturned in about 5 minutes.

1. I don't know,
If I were a High School student, I would probably use that time to catch a few more Z's. :)

:boring:

2. My daughter is in middle school in Texas...
and they have to do this. She asked if she could meditate.

Gotta love it!

She also says an alternative pledge of allegiance to the republic instead of a symbol. And, she's putting together a petition at her school to ask Gov. Goodhair to STOP with the special sessions already--her school needs some new desks and stuff.

Man, I love that kid!

5. Even with the flag, the original Pledge wasn't bad:
"I pledge allegiance to the flag, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, with liberty and justice for all." Understandable sentiment after the Civil War.

3. Maybe it could be changed to ...
a moment of silence during the Pledge -- say, at the 'under God' part.

6. I wonder...
under the new NCLB series, disabled students are expected to take the same exams and stuff, and i even had to sign some "behavior" contract, except that I listed his disability as an exception. I wonder what they will try and do to my autistic child if he doesn't participate in the pledge or be silent for a moment? I haven't signed a release.
