Are repubs are starting to understand that Iraq(b...) was a mistake?...
Edited on Wed Sep-03-03 02:55 PM by RedEarth
Today at lunch, I was visiting with two hardcore republicans and they both felt b... made a huge mistake invading Iraq. One commented that the US can't be the worlds policeman and the other said it appears we went to war for oil since we haven't found any WMDs.

When I asked if they would consider voting for a Democrat for President, they both said it would depend upon the candidate and what happens between now and the elections. In their opinion, b... has been a horrible President and they even joked about how goofy he looks and how poor a speaker he is. This is coming from two people that have strictly voted a straight party ticket for the last 20 years.

Frankly, I doubt if either of these people would vote for a Democrat, however, it is encouraging to hear even repubs question this administration. How this will play out over the next six months could be very interesting.

3. I would hope that even if they could not bring themselves to vote
for a Democrat, that they would vote for a 3rd party candidate. I do have a gut feeling that bush* will lose many "real" republicans to a 3rd party candidate. But, there are republicans who will never vote for a Democrat, no matter what. That is a reality we will have to deal with.

But then I do not see me ever voting for a repuke, ever. So that evens that out!

4. I'm hoping if they can't vote for a Dem they'll sit home
or find something better to do on election day than vote. Be nice if his base lacked motivation for once.

5. Any movement is good.
Swing voters to Dems. Some GOPs to Dems. If GOPs don't vote Dem, maybe they don't vote, or vote Libertarian. Some GOPs vote GOP, but they don't volunteer, don't contribute, and so on. There are many levels to losing support, and Dubya needs to experience all of them.

7. You could suggest that they "could always send a message"
even if they didn't want to vote Democratic. Or, hopefully, they'll stay home out of disgust and frustration. Either way, it'd play into our hands.

8. That's what I was thinking also...
Even if repubs don't vote Democratic, they still could have an impact on the elections....negative talk about b... with other people, not contributing to b..., etc. Any of these things will help our candidate, as long as we can get out the vote.

6. I actually don't find it comforting
that it has taken the deaths of thousands of innocent people for these stupid f***ing rightwingers to even BEGIN to question the honor of their precious King George. :puke:
