Are We Going to Just Pull Out of Iraq in a Few Months?
Edited on Wed Sep-03-03 05:58 PM by Beetwasher
Just had a crazy thought. Can/will the admin. just up and pull out of Iraq in like six months and say "mission accomplished?" Put together a governing council, stick around for a few months just to look good, then just completely up and pull out saying that "we did our job, if the Iraqi's can't get it together now, well, you can't say we didn't try. Oh and if the UN wants to help out, go ahead." It would be like breaking something, patching it sloppily together with scoth tape and walking away hoping no one notices or not caring if they do. It's something a child would do. For the admin. this would be in effect cutting their losses. They'd merely have to give up the idea of ruling the oil fields, for now. Something like this would be right in line with all their past actions. Fail spectacularly and then claim it was a victory and wash your hands of it.

2. nope

for all the wrong and, sadly, all the right reasons.

wrong: OIL (campaign investors expect a return)
right: we broke it, we have to fix it (thanks to the *&*&^%*&%$*^&% neocons)

3. Actually the "right" thing to do.
Would be to let the UN take over and let the Iraqis decide who gets to "rebuild" Iraq. That would cut into *'s bottom line and that is of course the reason we invaded in the first place.

So we are there until the oil runs out or Americans get sick enough to get rid of the PNACers.

4. Hey guys!
What's up? Hope you're both doing well! I guess this is a NY only thread...

As I said, it's a crazy idea, but who knows? At this point it doesn't look like they're going to get any oil out anytime soon and as far as the PNAC reasons for staying, well, if the country's not pacified it doesn't do them much good as a foothold. I agree, we now have an obligation to do the right thing in Iraq now that we've fucked it up, but this group is not known for doing the right thing, and given that they have failed in their secret agenda (No oil, no stable PNAC foothold) it might behoove them to cut their losses, for now...
