How's this sound for a new UN resolution on Iraq.....?

The US keeps military control. But, France is given civil political control and gets to set up the new Iraqi government.

God, I would love to see that on the table. Bush would have an instant case of the screaming shits...

2. Speaking of France, something is going on, I think.

Richard Holbrooke (ex-UN ambassador, Dem) was on CNN and Charlie Rose tonight (and maybe on other channels?) talking about what to do with Iran. He's pushing for the UN to pass a new resolution that will "provide cover" (nobody seems worried about how this sounds--they're all saying this on the media) so that individual countries can then pony up $$ and troops. This sounds like he's running with lines fed to him by Powell and/or the WH. He does throw in some criticism for the lack of a plan, and says the US has to get moving on a political solution. But first, stability/security. (So how is this different from Powell?) Oh yes, he also said that this administration has had a contempt for diplomacy and the UN, seeing them as weak. But, he says, it's good that the WH has offered an "olive branch" (huh? more like a demand, IMO), and other countries must now help. (no mention of the probable bribes and threats that are probably being passed behind the scenes)

But what really shocked me was that he called Domenique de Villepin a "buffoon" (CNN) and a "clown" (Rose) for the way he is talking and acting these days. HUH? This man is a defender of "diplomacy"--this sounds positively hostile. I wonder what he's referring to? Anybody know? What is de Villepin doing to make the US so angry? And why is Holbrooke (a DEM!) doing the media rounds to trash him? I'm inclined to cheer when de Villepin resists the Bush* Evil Empire, but I wish I knew the story? Can anyone enlighten me?

4. Bad.

No one wants any former colonial powers like France and England in the new ME power structure. Actually, no Europeans will probably be welcome. However, Turkey is a Democratic Islamic country and some other non-European democracies, like India could probably help set up a government that would be Iraqi, Islamic and yet Democratic.

Also, the UN should have the military power not the US. The idea is to wean American troops out of there. Sorry, but I think any civilian company with ties to this administration, specifically like Bechtel and Halliburton should be forced to withdraw and resubmit bids to a new government.
