This was too late for LBN, but I haven't seen it here before. The Arcata CA city council will hold a town meeting to hear public comments about a resolution before the council to call for the impeachment of George. W. Bush.
http://www.arcataeye.com/top/030825top02.shtmlCity Councilmember Dave Meserve introduced for council approval last week a resolution to impeach President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard B. Cheney for committing "high crimes and misdemeanors" against the American people in waging what he believes is an unjustified war against Iraq. Public feedback was overwhelmingly in favor, but Councilmembers Elizabeth Conner, Michael Machi and Connie Stewart, over personal feelings, opted to refrain from endorsing the resolution on grounds of inadequate community representation and inappropriate process.
--snip--
Seventeen other speakers not only accepted the appropriateness of City Council's supporting the resolution, but applauded it, calling it "courageous" and "a brave act for a community to take."
"You are speaking for us," Brian Willson of Veterans for Peace said. "This is what a democracy is about."
http://www.arcataeye.com/opinion/030825opinion03.shtmlShould the Arcata City Council consider the impeachment of the president and vice president, and should Bush/Cheney be impeached?
Last week, the Arcata City Council considered a resolution to impeach President Bush and Vice President Cheney. Again we face the issue of whether our City Council should tackle national issues. A Town Hall meeting will take place Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Community Center's Senior Dining Room to ascertain the will of the public on this matter.
1. Should Arcata consider a resolution on a national matter, specifically to impeach the president and vice president?
2. Regardless of whether the Arcata City Council takes a stand, should Bush and Cheney be impeached?
I think the Sept. 22 date is a typo-- I think the meeting was Sept. 2 (the 22nd is a Monday). If it was Sept. 2, I unfortunately missed it.
