Daily U.S. Casualties 9/4/2003

As of Wednesday, 286 U.S. soldiers have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq, according to the Department of Defense.

The British government has reported 49 deaths. Denmark's military has reported one death.

On or since May 1, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 148 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq, according to the latest Department of Defense figures.

Sgt. Sean K. Cataudella, 28, of Tucson, Ariz., died Saturday in Baqubah, Iraq, when his military vehicle hit an embankment and rolled into a canal. Cataudella was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Sgt. Charles T. Caldwell, 38, of North Providence, R.I., was killed Monday on a highway south of Baghdad when his vehicle was struck by an explosive device. Caldwell was assigned to the 115th Military Police Company, U.S. Army National Guard, Cranston, R.I.

Pfc. Christopher A. Sisson, 20, of Oak Park, Ill., died Tuesday in Baghdad when the UH-60 helicopter he was in crashed on takeoff. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 325th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Fort Bragg, N.C.

1. thanks for the update tboullet. Do you know....
if the DoD counts those soldiers who die later from their wounds? We never seem to hear about those....
