1. I just wish it was running someplace else.
How many people who will actually be affected by this can afford premium cable channels? I'd be a lot more impressed if it was running on a network. Maybe it is, but I haven't heard about it.

2. It doesn't just affect poor people.
If this new rule goes into effect, it will cost my spouse thousands of dollars in overtime a year. We are not poor, but we certainly don't deserve to have our income slashed so severely just so his fat-cat corporation can give that money to their executives.

10. It's complicated but one aspect is
that white-collar professionals making $60,000 will not be allowed to be paid overtime anymore if the rules are changed. Of course Bushites try to make it sound like it's these wealthy loan officers making $200,000 a year who will be the only ones affected. Wrong. Lots of middle class folks will lose this money and yet be expected to continue their overtime hours which are now practically standard work week. So if you made $100,000 a year working 50 hours a week, you will now be making $60,000 a year working 50 hours a week, no wait. They will probably find a way to squeeze more out of you so you will be working 60 hours a week and not get paid for that overtime either.

Smirk is doing a good job of pissing off every sector of American workers except the very few at the top and the ignorant.

12. How does this affect people who are salaried
and not paid an hourly wage vs. workers who are paid by the hour ?
Does this address paying overtime on a daily basis (over 8 hour day) or overtime paid on a 40 hour work week ?

4. To be fair...
...a huge percentage of the population does have basic cable. This ad will reach many of the people who stand to suffer if the overtime rule is changed.

And even if some of the people who take action are not working class or lower middle class, any support is better than none. Plenty of people in comfortable circumstances tend to be liberal. Just look at some of the voters in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., and all around the New York metropolitan area.

6. It is my understanding that this effects mainly managerial positions.
 I've been known to be wrong though.

14. The "management" would be required to do all the finish up work
of the employees who are sent home after their eight hour tour.

13. I understand that most managerial positions are
salaried and are, at any rate, not eligible for overtime ( although eligible for perks and bonuses). So how could the claim be made that it would affect people making above average salaries ?

7. I'm glad to see so many people disagree.
I thought it was a really bad media buy, but if I'm wrong, great. It's a good spot.

9. 8 million workers will lose overtime pay
Bush has never worked more than part-time in his life. Guess he was mad when he heard people who worked longer hours got more money.

Bushidiot.

15. and let's not forget the classification
aspect of the bill. corps will be able to reclassify employees who, although in the past have been salaried, still received some OT comp, into "managers" so that they will be covered by the new law which gives them a "choice" between days off in some distant future OR overtime pay- but at reduced rates.

this has already started to happen in my 'hood. some fast food resturants, always short of labor, have posted on their signs, "now hiring asst. MANAGERS" as opposed to 'shift teammembers' or whatever. ha ha, you get paid less and work more- how fun!

thank goddess i work in a union shop.

16. And the 'comp time' too
I hope they are addressing that, because that is as bad as the overtime portions of this bill. People are going to be hurt by this much more than they're going to be helped. I've never seen a corporation do the right thing by their employees when they can do the wrong thing.
