I recently wrote a letter critical of whistle ass and sent it into the my local paper. That same paper also has what an "open line" section. In response to my letter someone called the open line and left this message "Im calling in regard to Brian *******'s letter to the editor Friday; If he doesn't like living in the United States and thinks everything's so bad, I'm sure there's some Republicans that would get together and buy him a one-way ticket to Iran, Iraq, El Salvador, Honduras or wherever ht thinks would be a great place to live."
I love being offerd cash to move. Maybe I can buy a better house. Here was my original letter and if im not mistaken this person has made my point that many americans are quick to give up others rights when it doesnt suit their political needs. Let me know what you think.
To the editorial staff,
Your August 22 analysis of Madeleine Albright's thesis is what is flawed. Your assertion that the United states has practiced a "wallflower aggressiveness" and "refrained from boldly interventionist tactics" is false. If I may I will refresh your memory. In 1953 the US and British conspired to overthrow the democratically elected government of Iran. Did you forget about Viet Nam? The US has also meddled in the internal politics of many other nation. Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Honduras are just a few more of the countries.
We have supported dictatorships in the name of "national security". The Shah, Pinochet, and even Saddam Hussein have been beneficiaries of US backing. All three of these leaders tortured and brutalized their own populations with sanction and support from the US. This fact goes a long way in answering the question "why do they hate us?".
The editorial also asks the question if "European recalcitrance may have more to do with European arrogance that American arrogance"? I would submit Mr. Bush's cowboy "my way or the highway" attitude assured that, with the exception of Britain, our only allies were those that could be bought. It was a coalition of the BILLING.
The editorial finally gets one fact right but still misses the point. It is now impossible for Saddam Hussein to hand a nuclear bomb to terrorist. The possibility of that happening while Saddam was in power was at best not likely. He didn’t have a nuclear bomb to hand out unless you believe the cherry picked intelligence put forth by the Bush administration. Now any WMD’s that might have still been in Iraq are not accounted for and could be in the hands of just about anyone including the terrorist that are now killing American soldiers. In the mean time Afganistan is slipping back into the lawlessness that created a safe place for Al Queda in the first place.
Are we safer now than before the "preemptive" attack on Iraq? We are now less respected and feared more. We speak of democracy and human rights for all but throw these principles away when they don’t seem to suit us for the moment. The rest of world see this contradiction between our words and actions, actions that only serve those that would brainwash all to hate us.
