Daschle is on C-SPAN 2 standing up for workers!

He's sticking up for overtime for workers. I know some people on here don't like him and call him a DINO, but I think that he is a hell of a guy! I was disappointed when he decided not to run for President. :(

He's not a "corporate whore". He has an excellent AFL-CIO rating and he would make a great VP pick.

BTW, in reference to Tom Daschle, did you know that he was one (of many, of course) Senators to vote for a huge airline bailout following 9/11/01 without any conditions on the airlines for keeping jobs?

Did you also know that his wife, Linda Daschle, is one of the more prominent airline lobbyists in the US?

I'm not trying to single Daschle out for this, because Harry Reid is in a similar situation with 2 sons employed as top lobbyists. But it's an important thing to keep in mind when you go around imagining that such people are champions of workers, because when it comes to choosing between workers and their own vested financial interest, well, you can guess what they'll choose....

However, the final package had absolutely NO strings attached regarding job preservation. It was essentially a shareholder and executive bailout, and the airlines proceeded to layoffs anyway.

Call me a cynic, but I still tend to believe that his wife had just a bit of sway with him on this issue. I don't exactly remember him fighting for those job preservation clauses at the time.

We have to remember he is in a heavily Republican State. IMO it was a bad idea to put him in as majority leader because he couldn't say everythign he possibly wanted to for fear fo losing his seat. Our leader should be from a more moderate state.

Daschle is a very decent man from a very conservative state. The majority leader should have been from a state where he/she could have been more outspoken.
