That's small change to them. Why would they risk their scheme being revealed over 29 measly million dollars? I don't get it.

6. What if they planned to snuff out the techs?

Organized criminals sometimes orders a hit on its hitmen, when the target is high profile. Remember the Lee Harvey Oswald-Jack Ruby scenario? If they weren't planning to keep the techs around to tell tales, there would be no need to actually pay out the money. Just showing them a check that big ahead of the job would've been enough to motivate some serious hacking.

The question is: where are the techs now? On the run/in hiding, perhaps?

Those familiar with the use of Diebold machines to commit voter fraud have revealed that the hardware and software used in Diebold machines used in casinos(?):shrug: and polling places is essentially the same, including the back door used to dial in over telephone lines to change payoff odds in gambling machines. The same mechanism was used to change votes, the sources contend.

There's so many things wrong with that statement that it's hard to know where to begin. :)

had to mention that the last two sentences of madsen's latest are amazing. this is the first we've seen anyone specifically detail out how they remotely changed the outcome in a machine.

not to diminish his step by step explanation of where the big money came from and how five star got its funding. marcos's embezzlements for heaven's sakes! and how the bushes used it as a slush fund for elections.

i sincerely pray that the techs involved are hidden away in a cloistered convent somewhere. i'm terribly rusty at praying but it's time to find mom's old rosaries and fire up a mantra.

That article read just like an episode of Art Bell. Lots of suggestion, not a lot of detail.

Certainly not an article I would put in front of a Freeper and say "see!".
