State is 45th in pay equity

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Although women in Wisconsin are among the most likely in the nation to be in the work force, their wages still lag far behind those of men, according to a report on women's status.

The state ranked fifth in the nation for women's participation in the work force but 45th for the ratio of women's to men's earnings for full-time, year-round work, according to the report released Tuesday by the Institute for Women's Policy Research in Washington, D.C.

It said women earn only around two-thirds of what men make in Wisconsin, with a median annual salary of $28,100 in 2002 compared with $39,500 for men. Women of color from all ethnicities fared worse than their white counterparts.

2. All of the rights gained since the Civil Rights era of the late 1960-1970s

have be consistently and effectively been eaten away by the conservative ultra-right since Reagan took office. This administration might have the dubious distinction of overseeing the total dismantling of US worker's rights as well.
