Are your holiday cards subtly or overtly political this year?

I know that many DUers are boycotting cards, but I live far away from my friends and my family, and sending Xmas cards is a big tradition in our circle. I haven't picked a card yet (I'm trying to find one that has the word PEACE in the biggest letters I can find), but I do intend to get some parchment paper and print out the lyrics to "Let There Be Peace On Earth" and include a copy in every card.

What are you doing with your cards this year, anything different? Would love to hear your ideas.

Good Lord, is there anything that these people won't boycott? I swear. It's a card to let people know you're thinking about them this time of year. Have any of these weird boycotts actually worked? :shrug:

That was my first reaction too. ;) If I didn't send out any Christmas cards, my friends and family would just assume I was too lazy to reciprocate their kind holiday thoughts.

Exactly whom are you referring to?

Perhaps some of us who believe in buying blue and not buying red so Conservatives don't have more of our money to use against us? It depends on the card maker and where the card is purchased.

Boycotts are not weird. And Wal-Mart actually said the other day that they did not have the strong sales that they predicted last Friday.

It IS actually working somewhat, among those of us who've made a commitment not to shop there, and hurt their hateful agenda.

I found your statement a little judgmental, considering Sappocrat and I and many others have busted our butts putting together a database of businesses for people to use to make these types of choices.

11. I just meant that everyone boycotts everything...

...and it gets a little ridiculous. It's nice to be able to not shop at Walmart. I'd do it, but then we wouldn't be able to eat. I'm ecstatic that Walmart's sales have been hurt. But I was being melodramatic. There are people, and I wasn't talking about you, out there who will boycott anything.
We live in an area where that just isn't feasible if we want to eat. I commend you for what you are doing. But we don't have the luxury of doing it.

2. Picture cards

No, nothing political. We took digital pictures of the kids in front of the Christmas tree, picked the best one, and had Sam's Club print picture Christmas cards. They have a red and green border, a wreath, and a "Happy Holidays" greeting with a short text greeting from the family.

4. Philadelphia Committee to End Homelessness

I always buy their Christmas cards. Their mission statement on the back is my subtle political statement, and my purchase supports their cause.

5. Mine is a card designed by patients at Children’s Memorial Hospital.

The profits of card sales benefit the hospital programs. That hospital saved the life of 2 of my family members, and I like to support it whenever I can. I send out almost 100 cards.

6. I'm a member of several environmental organizations

and I always get my cards from them. They have pictures of wildlife on them and on the back is printed information (if they are endangered, etc.) I like sending the message of protecting wildlife in Christmas cards - it's a good connection.

10. I use a photo

of John and Yoko's "WAR IS OVER! if you want it: Happy Christmas from John & Yoko" on a Times Square business in 1969, overlooking an US Armed Forces Recruiting Station. My son runs off high-quality copies on our printer, with a message from our family inside. Makes a great card!

has been the message on all my cards for over 10 years now. I usually try to get something that has a nature theme but it always has to be about peace.
