Pacifica radio is having a nationwide one-day fundraiser (today) to raise money to preserve its audio archive.
This archive is an oral history of the progressive movement from the last 50 years, and preserving it is incredibly important. Most of the recordings are one-of-a-kind records of speeches and interviews with those on the left. Some of the tapes are deteriorating and need to be restored if we want to save them. They're suspending regular programming all day today and playing selections from the archive, and I've been tuning in every time I can sneak a few minutes at work.
If you want a little salve for our post-election soul, this is a wonderful thing to listen to. It'll remind you why the left is so important, and remind you of all we've accomplished. They've been playing recordings of Malcom X, Fannie Lou Hamer, Howard Zinn, Edward Said, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and on and on.
Tune in, and donate if you can!
