Anyone Else Feel This Way?
I admit I am in the middle of a personal moral dilemma. On one hand, I want the UN to step in and relieve us of the burden we have created in Iraq. I want our troops to come home as peacekeepers take their place. I know not only our country but the entire world will be better for it.
However, on the other hand, if the UN does agree with a new resolution and rebuilding Iraq becomes an international effort that works, I'm very afraid chimpy and co. will manage to spin it to their advantage, just in time for the election. They're already spinning the economy.
I know I shouldn't think this way but I can't help it. I feel as if I'm waiting for the sky to fall.

1. I know, I feel the same way.
I know that there is a special place in hell for bush* and his cabal.

They are now trying to spin that if the UN does not come in and help, that it will be their fault if anything else goes wrong. They are pure evil, and the rest of the world is suffering for it.

4. You're welcome
I was hesitant about revealing how I really feel, but it's been bothering me. Thanks for the validation. :)

8. Same here!
You've really hit the nail on the head, that's exactly how I feel and I know many others feel the same way even if they don't want to admit it!

5. They can spin the economy all they want
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 09:57 PM by NNN0LHI
That does not mean 3 million people have not lost their jobs since Junior took office. First president in history to lose jobs during his term since Hoover. Lets see them spin that.

13. They didn't win the first time and they won't win the second time, but
we need to make sure the touch screens have a paper trail and are not sold by the neocons to the states. We also need Jimmy Carter to supervise the elections and we need to do our own exit polling. If this isn't done they will be re-defeated but will go to the White House again through cheating.

14. And then there those of us in the rest of the world who don't want to see
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 10:47 PM by glarius
our soldiers have to go over to Iraq and replace the Americans as sitting ducks targets. ...It's a real dilemma. I know your soldiers are being pushed to the limit, but we Canadians didn't want this damned war and it doesn't seem fair that our young people and other U.N. troops would have to risk their lives. We just sent 2000 troops over to Afghanistan to join those we already have there and it's really a mess in Afghanistan too...God the whole thing seems just like a hopeless mess.

15. Yes it does
and ideally, I don't want ANYONE over there. Should never have gone in the first place. But now...we're stuck and will be for a very long time.

16. My heart aches for all of you and I pray for the day when it's all over!
Watching Bush today in one of his little staged speeches....leaning across the lecturn and saying "evey time we put one of our soldiers in harms way I'm going to make sure they have the best equipment", made me want to puke.

7. This is not about "feeling" or Bush
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 10:05 PM by markses
The US must relinquish all control as occupying power and cede the whole reconstruction process - including security force control - to a non-involved UN mandated authority. The Coalition Provisional Authority must be disbanded within 30 days and replaced by a UN mandated authority, which will itself set up a timeline for elections - 60 days. All long-term contracts or awards granted by either the occupying powers or the Coalition Provisional Authority should be voided, and new contracts should be open to international bidding (by long-term, I mean to avoid the immediate exchange of oil which has already occurred or will occur within the near future, say, 60 days). The US should pay a significant portion of the costs, or proceed with debt forgiveness for those nations which do contribute.

US troops should be withdrawn in toto, since the US/UK colonizing forces provoked this bloody conflict without cause or warrant. They are aggravating the situation by their presence, and thereby causing the security breakdown that their presence is - ideally - meant to prevent. This does not pass judgment on the soldiers themselves. They are in a structural position of fault, not personal positions of fault.

This is not about how we "feel." This is about setting up specific, ethical conditions for the reconstruction of Iraq, and the removal of US/UK colonizing forces from the immediate region.

9. It's OUR burden...
...but it's Bush's* crime.

The UN and Europe are not going to 'help' as long as shrub is in power- and if things keep going they way they are, you can expect a general pull-out by the Brit's in the next six months.

Until Bush* is gone- expect nothing from former friends and allies.

10. you need to...
.....read the article posted at this other thread, from the Taipei Times. It changed my thinking on the subject of the UN in Iraq. It's just outstanding.

12. sucker bait
That is all the "good points" of Bush policy amounts to. The well is alsways poisoned, at least so far with no signs of flexibility or real change, even verbal. The UN resisted last time when all of this was harder to see, to argue against. They certainly won't sanction US triumph and occupation now. It's like an embargo when the other choices, war or capitulation are unacceptable.

Bush can spin and twist all he wants. No one is letting them off the hook so they can plainly repeat their schemes, making more victims for the UN to take care of.
