Simple Question, just wondering. I know we have very few Lieberman fans here (I'm certaintly not one) but I'll play devils advocate here:

Voting for Bush is completely unthinkable. Come to think of it, so is voting for Lieberman. I'd rather have Gary Coleman in the White House than either of these.

This is kind of like asking: if you were forced, would you rather have Ted Bundy or Jeffery Dahmer babysit your kids?

nor am I against Lieberman because of his religion.
The country's been ready to elect a Jewish President. I'd rather it be Rendell (Gov/PA) someday than Lieberman.

Even if Lieberman is perfectly doveish in all matters of Foreign policy, I do fear what Arab Extremists might do with the election of not only someone who is Jewish, but is Orthodox.

Like I said, we're ready, but is the world?

Then again, maybe that's an overreaction. But with Joe's hawkish stances, it doesn't comfort me.

And I don't think it will. I would be very surprised to see Lieberman get the nod. But Lieberman is just a conservative guy. Bush has no principles... he's all about the money. Between the two, Lieberman would be an easy choice, in my opinion.

10. I have agonized over this very scenario...

I had an epiphany, if bush* goes, he takes Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz with him. Try to think in those terms, it makes it almost palatable, well sort of. Anyway, the chances of Joe getting the nod are about as probable as Ken Lay going to jail.

unless there was a third party candidate, then I would vote for the third party candidate. But since I would have voted for bush instead of Lieberman, no one can accuse me of helping bush win by voting for a third party, because my third party vote actually took a vote away from bush. So in a way I would be indirectly helping Lieberman without having to vote for him.

If there wasn't a third party candidate, I would just forget to show up at the polling station until after it closed. Again, since I was planning on voting for bush, by not voting I would be indirectly supporting Lieberman without voting for him.

Having said that, I would not lift a finger for him in the campaign, or urge others to vote for him. I'd quietly go to the polls on election day and vote for him, watch him lose because of low turnout and an 8% vote for Ralph Nader and then say "I told you so" to all the DLC appeasers.

Let's see who I'm going to vote for - Lieberman, fundie extraordinaire, moralist, and a supporter of the atheists-are-immoral doctrine; or the Green party, whose program calls for separation of church and state, and which apparently supports Newdow vs. Congress (I say apparently because I emailed them 3-4 days after the decision and they still haven't answered). Yep, Lieberman - after all, he's not Bush and the Democrats must show unity even if I'm a registered Independent and even if the Democratic wing of the Republicratic party tries to merge with the Republican wing.

I fully expect the black boxes to be rigged to nominate Liberman, then he will go down as Mondale and Mc Govern did in a disastrous landslide.

The Democratic Party is the party of the people, not the special interests. If it did boil down to your sorry choice, it would depend on what third parties were available to pick from. In 2000, the only third parties on my ballot were the Liberterian and Reform Party. I voted for Gore, and with those same choices today..I would likely go with Lieberman.

The Republicratic party is *not* the party of the people. Some people on either of its fringes sometimes represent the people, but the party at large does not. Its various wings represent different special interests: corporations, corrupt unions, Hollywood, Christian fundamentalists, racists, homophobes, old money - those kinds of things.

24. Once again, I don't understand the hatred of Lieberman.

He's not my favorite either, but he cannot possibly be worse than what's there now. I can't imagine him doing a worse job.

Positions are positions, but Lieberman has much of the character, intelligence and decency that the present occupant lacks.

Everyone who gets into office finds out soon enough that they must compromise their positions to deal with the opposition. Lieberman's (or Dean's or Kucinich's, for that matter) will be moderated far sooner than the Imperial Occupant in there now.

If by some odd twist of fate he gets it, I will work for him and vote for him.

27. The only way I would even CONSIDER voting for Junior

would be if his opponent was a certifiable spawn of Satan-- We're talking offspring like Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Idi Amin. And if I vote for someone who doesn't have an ice cube's chance in hell of winning (and that includes all third party candidates in the history of the republic except Teddy Roosevelt*), then it would have nearly the same effect as voting for the rat bastard himself.


*Note: The Republican Party was a third party in 1856, but by the time Lincoln won the nomination in 1860, it had nearly completely absorbed the Whig Party, which ceased to exist. While Lincoln ran as a Union Party candidate in 1864, he was still recognized as a Republican.
