Most of us here know that, yet we KEEP REPEATING their claim about "moral values", even if it's usually in derision.

Lakoff's book is heavily lauded here. How many have actually read it? Not too many yet, it seems.

STOP TALKING ABOUT MORAL VALUES. IT IS A NON-ISSUE. EVERY TIME YOU MENTION IT, EVEN TO REFUTE IT, IT GAINS CREDENCE AND POWER. YOU ARE DOING THEIR WORK *FOR* THEM!

By all means.

Not about the supposedly crushing divide that exists because of them. Too much of the discussion has centered on that one piece of info.

We do need to make our morals/values/ethics case, and we need to make it on our terms. In the wake of this thing, I would say that even the word morals has become temporarily tainted to invoke that "bush won on moral issues" nonsense.

6. I guess we have had some different experiences

I don't see the discussion of moral values on DU, or in real life by liberals, as being centered around the divide. But then again, that's just me. I guess I didn't consider the possibility that you're experiences on DU could be different. After all, it's the same DU.

To me it can be a positive thing. It underlines that Republicans don't win on their economic plans or on their foreign policy plans. They win on issues that they can't count on winning on forever.

8. I always mention that Democrats have "traditional values"

Strong family bonds, desire for education and a better life for one's children, an appreciation for a home in which to raise one's family, kindness and a generous attitude towards others because we reap what we sow.

No one has ever thrown in my face anything about "moral values" when I start talking about traditional values. And I personally never bring up moral values because I think it's the most shallow of arguments the Repubs have ever conceived.

The word "traditional" just seems to resonate with people, they get images of mom and apple pie and the American Dream.

11. i wont stop talking moral values, i am bringing it up every

friggin chance i get. and each and every time it is a zinger to whatever republican i am talking to. it is too easy this moral value issue as they are moralless all over the place. adn each time dripping in sarcasm i ask, do tell me about moral value. challenge all republicans in my life that know me so well, do tell me about your morality you are going to teach me

there is not a chance in hell i am letting go of this moral value issue. have already used it on father at least four times in two weeks

telling him about a couple 50 something living in sin, really threw him. when he told me not really an issue yup i say, moral values, it is a sin

i am sitting in the panhandle of texas they have grabbed onto this issue,........and i am shoving it in there face
