Bush Gives $20 Million Directly to Palestinians

President Bush (news - web sites) on Wednesday resumed direct assistance to the Palestinian Authority (news - web sites) as part of a renewed push for peace following the death of long-time leader Yasser Arafat (news - web sites).

But the White House imposed restrictions on the $20 million in direct aid approved by Bush: the authority will use it to pay Palestinian utility bills owed to Israeli companies.

Let's pretend I'm in college and I owe my cable company $20 million.

Now, let's say I only have $25 million in my bank account.

Then I call my dad and he sends me a check for $20 million, on the condition that I only use it to pay my cable bill.

So, now that my cable bill is paid off, I still have $25 million in the bank that I can use to buy beer. Or, I could use that money to buy styrofoam packing peanuts and fill the cable company's office with them from top to bottom.

The only problem is, the Palestinians won't use it to buy beer. And they won't buy styrofoam packing peanuts. They can give it to terrorists.

Oh, I'm sorry. We're calling them "Militants" now.

They're only called "terrorists" when they kill Americans.

The solution, obviously, is to send the Palestinians lots of beer.
