At every event protesting war, Bush, America, this, that and the other thing, one can find pictures of various administration officials in SS garb or bearing Hitler mustaches. On the Web, leftwing forums like Democraticunderground.com overflow with insubstantial people bolstering their self-esteem by pretending to "speak truth to power" to the unfolding Nazification of America.

This is the second time in a week that some wingnut has made this complaint. It is ironic that the only real mainstream example they can point to is a letter to the editor in a celebrity magazine, but hey, their side is allowed to exaggerate.

The other interesting point in this article is that he uses the all too familiar “straw man” argument that is the only hope the right ever has in making a point. Rather than address why those out of the mainstream really make comparisons between the rise of Bush and the rise of Hitler he invents the reasons then discredits the invented left wing arguments.

If you check Goldberg's Bio, you'll see it's fairly light academically- There are a legion of DUer's who are far more qualified to ascertain whether or not the Hitler Comparrison is valid- but more to the point, why does anybody read this blowhard?

He's never held office, he's never served in the Armed Forces and he slipped out of a non-accredited northern private school on the gimmick that he was one of the first male students at a womens college. What's his deal you ask? Jonah is frustrated by the continual disdain of the very people he longs to be counted among.

If you've read more than one of his articles, you'll notice he loves to attack the academic community; because, he desparately wants to be recognized by the same. However, his punch-line / popular culture form of writing clearly lacks the intellectual depth and clarity to merit serious interest or response- hence he's left playing the psuedo intellectual to those who can't tell the difference.

Jonah is the kid who who stamped his foot and wailed like a banshee when he didn't get picked for the team- who promptly turned around and claimed he didn't want to join the dumb ole' team anyway.

I'll bet Jonah lurks on DU quite a bit- and I'll bet dollars to dimes it drives him insane when our members, of any academic background, reduce his crayon scibblings to the verbal pap they are.

You don't have to believe Dumbo is just like Hitler (no gassing of minotrities yet, but give the scum a second term and see what happens) to realize that there are numerous simlarities in the way they govern--eternal fear--reapeating lies until the public believes it's the truth, tec. Compare and Contrast the policies, strategy and tactics of Hitler's rise to power, Hitler's propaganda machine, Hitler's take over of Poland, Czechoslovakia, France, etc, Hitler's persecution of minorities, Hitler's relationships with business and labor.

Now, discuss again how he is nothing like Hitler.

Certainly to compare Bush's policies to that of the genocidal policies of Hitler would be wrong. But the primary lesson to be taken out of the Holocaust is repeated by Jews the world over. Never Again.

Are we supposed to sit back and never make the comparisons between the policies of one corrupt regime with another? Do we ignore the warning signs? In order for civilization to advance we must learn from history and we must safeguard our liberties in order to ensure that something like what happened in nazi germany, europe and asia in the 1930-1945 era never happens again. In order to do that we need to recognize when history begins repeating itself. Maybe we should compare Jonah Goldberg to Chamberlain?
