they've done to us so many times before everytime with wedge issues that put us on the defensive and box us in like Janet Jackson's boob, prayer in school, the confederate flag on state houses, knee jerk puritan reaction to sex in the media, creationism vs evolution, and just the mind numbing sensationalist retardation of the American political dialogue.

They are successful everytime because we're always put on the defense, doesn't even matter if we're right. Republicans are notoriously efficient at sensationalizing their "litany of complaints" in the media. The supposed family values they tout constantly have no bearing on improving quality of life of the people, economically or socially.

We need to play dirty, I'm talking about kicking them in the crotch and hitting their nerves with every news spin. At this point, I have no qualms at slinging our own unsubstantiated sensationalist dirt at these bastards!

3. What I feel would work excellent

Is to pit them against each other with the rep habit of giving away public lands to private industry.
Appeal to the NRA gun crowd that the reps are taking away their sacred hunting and fishing grounds. Makes total sense and is true.
Many reps would finally snap out of it and realize they've been tree-hungers all along.
