I really enjoyed the article, and I saved it. I have been trying to convince my progressive friends to do this because 1) they're happier after attending a spiritual place that jives with their values, and 2) we're 'starving the beast' so-to-speak.

My opinion? I think that orgs. like the Catholic Church and the Southern Baptist Convention have become political action committees instead of spiritual places, and I think congregants have to think very carefully before giving them more money to run the machine.

I really admire these guys.

We began attending a progressive church about a year ago.

I've been very happy since.

10. I should be honest.

I was an ex-Presbyterian, then was out of the church for quite awhile, then the progressive church. But the idea's the same.

My in-laws became intense hard right Southern Baptists about 2 years ago. We try to point out to them that they are feeding a political beast ... but apparently they do not care.

All progressives must respond by ... starving the beasts.

When you are baptized a Catholic, it's not just a matter of changing your registration card. Catholics in my state voted 55% to 45% for Kerry. The Church doesn't necessarily have the influence with the folks in the pews that the fundamentalist sects have.

They didn't teach us about it in catechism, it never came up in Mass, and my parents didn't talk about it. It was a friend who informed me. So when I found out, I decided I didn't want to be part of a church with that in its history.

You might say that my soul holds a grudge for a long, long time :P

13. I don't like to judge others reasons, but that reason just doesn't make a

lot of sense to me. You left the Catholic faith because you didn't like what some people did in the name of the Catholic faith years ago? People corrupt just about anything, that doesn't mean the underlying principles are necessarily wrong! I left the Catholic faith because the concept of God, Jesus as his son, and other Catholic dogma didn't make sense to me. And I know other people leave because of the current policies of the church toward abortion, gay marriage, etc. But because of historical problems? Wow. I learned about what happened to the Native American people when I was quite young, didn't feel the need to leave the U.S.

12. i pulled my kids out of a private christian school

three weeks ago. exactly for the same reason as this couple stepping out. i am going to email this article to the head dude of the school. had a hour and half conversation with him a week ago telling him why we wont be going to this school anymore. a school where we got to know the people adn love them so and miss them, just cant have my kids in that enviroment in the name of god, jesus's word

16. Brave move Sea....

I'm especially concerned about the children in some of these hard core "religious" schools/churches. The things I hear with regards to what they teach children, and how other kids treat each other over the "dogma".............curls my hair.

The public schools really suck. I'm not opposed to private school. If I could afford it, I'd send my grandson to a good one. Apparently, there are many fine (secular) private schools out there...

14. What a Dynamite article!!

Bravo to the King Family!! I've been out of church for a few years. I'm floundering around wondering if there even is a god...still, I miss that "coming together" thing.

I looked for a UCC in my area...found one. I've yet to go attend. When I do, I'll let others know what I saw and felt.

I have no desire to support a so-called "religious" sect/organization that adheres to a different set of Values than I do. I'm especially loathe to attend nor support any community that supports a fascist regime.

more Catholics would advocate for change within the church instead of leaving it.
