Today the Pretenders were announced as being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The announcer gives a fact after each artist is listed. When he mentioned the Pretenders he said Rush Limbaugh uses one of their songs as a theme & they tried to have it removed (which it was for a short period of time)Well, I guess the record label gave him permission NOT the Pretenders. That sucks!

1. I'm not sure, but I think there is a 30 second or less rule |
|
where you don't have to pay royalties and, I assume, get permission.

which is generally about 7 seconds but this doesn't fit. Fair use is for illustrative use or incidental use - not for someone's theme song which gets played every day and then becomes associated with their production.
And Chrissie Hines says "bad boys get spanked..."

4. On my college radio show... |
|
...I used to play that Pretenders song and I would always introduce it as "Rush Limbaugh stole this song from the Pretenders and tonight we're stealing it back!" :D

that the lead singer's parents are dittoheads, that she doesn't agree with his politics (duh) but doesn't object to his using it.
