Faux: Is Dean As Liberal As You Think?
This is the title of some new Faux News special they're having tonight. What's the point in Faux airing this?

We KNOW Fox has an agenda; Faux rarely does anything but push it. So why is it to their advantage to say that the frontrunner, Dean, might actually be more moderate than many people believe?

Are they trying to help him be the Democratic nominee, thinking that he'll be a pushover vs. Bush in 2004? Or are they just trying to split the Democratic party even further?

Or is there something else that I'm missing?

1. Same strategy they tried on Al Gore
They're trying to imply that Dean's a phony...he's reinventing himself. It's not going to work. This is really pathetic.

Oh, and whether or not you support Dean, you should care about this because if Dean weren't in the lead they'd be using this strategy on the candidate that was...

6. Yup, but Dean is no Al Gore and he will fight back as Gore should have.
All this superficial shit about being a phony, liar etc. Who's the real phony? Who is the real liar? None other than * and the Dems exposed him last night and it was BEAUTIFUL!

9. "Fighting back" is no panacea
Edited on Fri Sep-05-03 04:02 PM by sangh0
If a candidate, any candidate, has to spend all of his/her time "fighting back", then there will be no time for them to put forth their own ideas. "Fighting back" means spending time on topics the other side picked, so you can bet that "fighting back" involves little talk about Bush*'s failed economy, failed wars, failed agenda, etc

Unless the candidate knows how to turn those arguments back on them. Dean has shown promise in this regard. His reply to "Dean's a liberal" is a good example. (If balancing a budget, providing health insurance to children, etc is liberal, then I'm proud to be a liberal). This response not only addresses the bogus complaint, it also provides a stark contrast to Bush*'s record (budget deficits and children and adults LOSING their health insurance)

10. They've been calling Kerry a "phony" since the Nixon years.
Segretti, Atwater and Rove. They planted that meme when he returned from Vietnam, and it became an accepted description for him no matter how many of his accomplishments prove otherwise.

2. We All KNOW What They Really Want Is For Hillary To Run
But I think they're foaming at the mouth to attack Dean's pro-gay record in Vermont. They can't wait to start the finger pointing..

3. Trying to drive the anti-war vote away from Dean
They perceive the anti-war wing of the Democratic Party as extremely liberal and are attempting to remove that support from under Dean's campaign.

7. bwahahaha like the anti war vote would be influenced by Faux.
But with their self-importance view in tact- this could be what they are trying to do.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if instead some of their moderate viewers - start going - right... he's not really liberal... and he doesn't sound bad... are other democrats like this as well? Should I start paying attention to the democrats...???

Bwahahahaha

5. I hope this backfires on them...
I mean, I for one know Deans positions, I know that I am to the left of him on many issues. I also know that I will happily back any horse in this race that's not bush. But what I think many people are attracted to Dean for is for his 'let's bring the fight to them' attitude. I really think that this attitude could attract many people who have historically voted for the repubs, and so highlighting the fact that Dean is really more moderate (especially on the gun issue) could end up backfiring on them...

8. Kind of like suing Al Franken
and giving him the #1 bestseller in the nation?

The minds (I use that term loosely) over at Faux sure are on a roll lately.

11. No...they realized they made Kerry look more moderate than Dean
and they want to correct that so they can paint Kerry as the ultraliberal now, because that is who BushInc really does not want as the nominee.
