RED ALERT NEW ENGLAND DUers: Ashcroft is coming to Boston

I just got a call from the Cambridge City Councillor who has led the push to repudiate the Patriot Act here in the People's Republic. John Ashcroft is coming to Boston on September 9th to speak to law enforcement groups as part of his "Isn't The Patriot Act Great!" national tour.

Here's the rub: He is coming on September 9th at 8:00am, demonstrably sneaking in and out of town early so as to try to avoid any problems from the fractions denizens of the city where the tea went overboard. I have contacted the Boston Phoenix and the Weekly Dig to get the word out, and the Councilman is banging the wires on his own end.

DU should have a presence at this event.

8:00am at the old Fanuiel Hall meeting house (and how's that for a vomitous irony). Be there. Some of you have my phone number. Call me so we can coordinate.

The timing of this is meant to dissuade people. It'll take some sacrifice to do this, but I devoutly believe it needs to happen. Do the best you can. Thanks.

I just saw an ad on CNN about a special that will be on at 6 pm on Sunday evening. It is about the Patriot Act and Mr. Ashcroft will be on live to answer questions about it. It is supposed to explain why we need it. Think they're a little worried about how America feels about this? I guess they are, if they are putting a whole show on to defend it.
