the possibility of a draft to her. Her only child is 19 and in college, a bright boy, pre-med. She hasn't been paying attention. She didn't know it was even possible for a draft, whereas our dad is betting Shrub will order the invasion of Iran by next Spring, and will need a draft to support it. When he mentioned it, she was so shocked she couldn't hardly speak.

I'd hate to see my nephew get hauled off like that, but my stupid sister practically asked for it. My (good dem) husband's niece and her husband are young enough to be targeted also.

24. No new recruits for AF since April

I still don't see a draft in the near future. The Air Force is still 20,000 + over authorized end strength numbers. They have not given out a monthly "goal" or quota since April. Latest estimates say Air Force recruiters won't see a goal until FY06. The Navy is also not having any trouble making it's quota. It's the Army (AD, Guard, and Reserves) that are suffering. There are many ways to alleviate this shortage before resorting to a draft. Raising initial enlistment bonuses, transferring some traditional Army jobs to the Air Force (this has already started with convoy duties), offering Army enlistments to troops forced out of AF and Navy because of over manning, and privatizing more base level support positions. No one I have ever spoken to on active duty wants to see a draft.

14. We now have the first member of our family -- ever --to enlist in military

One of my cousins has a son who graduated high school last spring. He had been in ROTC, and had been planning a military career, but his family talked him out of it, and instead he started school to learn paramedicine. When I saw his Dad at his graduation party, he said he was relieved, and I said, heck yeah, considering the war is going to get much much bigger and more awful if Pinhead gets "re"-elected, with no end in sight....

But yikes -- Xmas card says he's decided to join the Air Force, after all.

I just moved to this area, and don't know this young man. He's not hard up for cash -- his parents can put him through school -- so I can only assume he really wants to be a soldier for George W.

I feel sorry for kids. They're being brainwashed by fascists on the airwaves, and so many schools have "Worship the military" programs.

Only good thing I can get out of this is, if he is a right wing devotee determined to kill Muslims for his beloved George W -- at least he had the guts to actually sign up himself, when so many of these idiots are content to cheer soldiers on from the sidelines.

I don't know what the whole story is -- his parents are moderate Democrats -- but I feel bad that this kid is laying his life on the line for lies and lying ideologues. Tragic.
