FBI searching for serial 'Michael Moore Bandit'
Ann Arbor News
CARLETON - Federal authorities have released a surveillance photo of a serial robber who struck in Monroe County last week and has been dubbed the "Michael Moore Bandit."
The robber - so named because of his likeness to the famous documentary filmmaker - has robbed banks in Carleton and Westland. The Western Wayne holdups occurred in October and November, and the robbery in northern Monroe County occurred Dec. 9 at the Monroe Bank and Trust.
FBI Senior Agent Greg Stejskal said the robber entered the bank carrying a distinctive note, which read in part that he was armed, wanted cash but not small bills or dye packs, and that people would die if he was stopped or followed.
In one robbery, he was wearing a device strapped to his chest that he claimed was a bomb, but witnesses said they did not think it was real, Stejskal said.
