So basically we are just fish out here.
What is the "work-around"?

1. No real alternatives

Many of the government's "new" programs are being run from the backbone down, which means no matter who you select, your email transmissions and web requests are subject to scrutiny/inspection at the topmost level of the internet.

If you really want to conduct a private conversation, you would wrap your own Public/Private Key system and exchange keys with friends using SneakerNet. Even that isn't guaranteed depending on which encryption scheme you use. I have no idea who has a backdoor to what anymore.

Anyway, aren't we getting a bit paranoid? Granted they are trying to set up a good ol' Gestapo/Stasi network, but spam will probably bring them to their knees long before they mistakenly snare us simple opponents in their nets. Or actually catch someone for real.

It has been suggested that everyone include in every email, usenet message, webposting, etc. something like "I could kill for a President cigar today" just to fuck 'em up. ECHELON can keep buying supercomputers forever, but can they keep up with the traffic?
