Poll question: Eating Endangered Species: CAVIAR POLL

Gosh I love Beluga or Sevruga caviar... but this species is so overfished it population is decimated. Eating its eggs is terrible really, because each represents a potential life. Then again, my actions really wont stop the overfishing either way, or maybe I'm kidding myself.

Is buying Sevruga caviar from Kazahkstan for the holidays ethical or I am contributing to a eco-crime by consuming this potentially endangered species?

(I'm being nasty...I was born in Illinois, and I could afford it if I wanted), but I don't care for either taste or the eco-waste incurred in 'harvesting' it.

6. If you have a Trader Joes nearby, its only $30 for a one ounce jar.

Whole Foods which also carries caviar only has 'ethical' caviar, from non threatened species. (Trout, American Sturgeon etc) Plus its US made. But its not as good tasting really.

That much is worth about $1000! It may look disgusting but fish eggs are tasty, if you like a fishy taste.

Ikura, Salmon Roe, is cheap and delicious on rice and that much of it would be only $10. That's the one I eat pretty often, Japanese style. They also eat flying fish roe and cod roe. Taramosalata, is a greek fish roe dish you put on bread. All of those are very inexpensive, everyday kind of dishes.

Eating fish eggs like those isnt that much different from eating chicken eggs. Salmon roe has all protein and tons of healthful oils.

My budget covers tuna casserole. Not caviar. There is no ethical dilemma for me here.
