Homeless Hawks Pale Male and Lola should have a new love nest by tomorrow.
Workers will install a new bird cradle at the same spot the famous red-tailed hawks made their home before they were unceremoniously evicted by the buildings co-op board at tony 927 Fifth Ave.
"We don't get to build a nest every day," said Manhattan architect Dan Ionescu, who designed the new coop at the co-op. "We are excited to give this present back to the city and the people who have watched the birds for so many years."
The co-op board said it origianlly had the nest removed from above a 12th-floor cornice because of safety concerns.
Bird lovers from around the city protested, spurring the board, led by developer Richard Cohen, husband of CNN newwoman Paula Zahn, to reverse itself after days of bad publicity.
Ionescu came up with the 8-by-3-foot stainless-steel basket that will be anchored to the tony limestone building with a birds's-eye view of Central Park.
Twigs from the original nest will be woven between the metal bars, Ionescu said. ****************************** Only in New York, folks....only in New York.
