What will stop an evil empire?


The destruction of their army in the field. The destruction of their economy. The refusal of other countries to finance their debt any longer. And finally the most desired option which should come first. The people of the evil empire reforming, or overthrowing it before these bad things happen.

1. Every nation needs to wipe out the top 1% of the population.

That would help bring down corruption in society a few notches. They're easy to find too, they have all the fancy stuff.

3. They're actually not that easy to find

Most of them live in fairly remote areas at the end of long drives monitored by videocams and guards, palaces not visible from the street. They don't use the same healthcare, airports, or just about anything the rest of us do.

They never see us, and trust me, we never see them.

2. A critical mass of people taking to the streets and peacefully

saying NO. NO MORE. Willing to be beaten up and still staying and saying NO.

The first three possibilities you mentioned work - it is what happened to Nazi Germany. It works - with a lot of bloodshed on all sides - but it also leaves very many unconvinced and unreformed brainwashed people to go and carry their ideas on to the next generation.

8. I've heard the argument that if things get bad enough people will take to

the streets. I say that things getting badder make it even harder for people to take to the streets. Things are bad now. I'm looking out my window. I don't see any people out there taking to the streets.

That's why I haven't much hope. Whenever people took to the streets they usually had a leader they could rally behind. By themselves they will usually do nothing, I fear. And I absolutely agree: Things getting worse make it even harder for people to take to the streets.
