A question regarding Reggie White

Yeah, people comparing him to Hitler was over the top, but I sincerely see no difference between White and Phelps. Not one whit of difference.

He COULD have worked in a grocery store when he was a kid, selling Campbell's Soup.

6. White didn't make it his life-long goal to cause misery for gay people and

their families.

White had an opinion on homosexuality. He chose to express it publicly. That's his right. As far as I know, he never picketed a gay person's funeral.

Here is the bottom line on Reggie White. He was an amazing football player who utterly changed the NFL by fighting for free agency and by choosing to play in Green Bay. He seemed to be a good family man. And he had some stupid opinions that he made public.

I didn't agree with him, but I've voted for Robert Byrd who has said equally stupid things about gays and atheists and once was in the Klan. I voted for Bill Clinton who executed a retarded person. No one is perfect.

White wasn't perfect, but I think you look at the totality of someone's life and try to focus on the good. And I think you let the dead rest. If he was as evil as you think, he's getting his reward. I certainly don't see the point in bashing him now.

The best I can think of is that he didn't show up at Matthew Shepard's funeral.

8. Yeah many White apologist here at DU. I worked for a beverage

distributor in the late 80s, I was making a delivery to a gay customer. His DJ was testing equipment playing a Donna Summer (the Disco singer ) record. He said I told that ------not to play that bitch. He then went on to say that the DJ defended her last night, saying she apologized. He then pulled out a copy of a magazine that said Summer was accusing both sides of misunderstanding and complained the she was a victim of anti-Christian bias herself. I remember reading what she said- and it was something like Gays deserved AIDS or something to that effect..Reggie White did not go that far. The Gay bar owner told me that many gays were acting like the whole Summer thing was all "kiss, kiss, and make up" when it was not. Not defending him and frankly don't care he is gone..My point is people will defend many of the people who they admire despite the flaws. DU sports fan who think White is great. And the gay DJ who liked Summer's music despite her own non apology. Reggie White is not Fred Phelps. Not nearly as disgusting Phelps or Donna Summer.
