I haven't heard of any religious leaders other than the pope speaking out. The pope has already spoken about the disaster several times, urging people to help. Of course there will be Catholic aid, including a special fund set up at the Vatican, and I expect all the mainstream Protestant churches will also contribute. They are probably speaking about it, too. The pope gets better coverage because he's the leader of Catholics around the world. There's no comparable world leader of Presbyterians.

I heard one lady blaming the Thai sex trade for the Tsunami (of course that doesn't address the FACT the quake and worst destruction hit Indonesia, but why should that ruin her rapture)...and then, when questioned by the AEI/C-SPAN "host" went into more specifics. It wasn't just sex...it was <b>anal sex</b>, <b>oral sex</b>...and it was something she obviously knows a lot about because she saw something or another about it on television. 19. I heard a wingnut on some inane AM radio talk show this morning...

Had a brief fit of insomnia last night and donned the headset and browsed through the AM airwaves to take my mind off NOT being able to get back to sleep.

Anyway some idiot caller to some idiot show (am not sure of the host or the station since reception was not the best) said it was no coincidence this happened at Christmas time. Said the same thing happened last year in Bam, Iran with the earthquake. Said Jaysus was sending a message to all the non-belivers.

I decided I was better off counting sheep and turned the damned radio off. I couldn't beleive someone actually holds this twisted belief.

30. Well, Jesus did zap that fig tree...

One of the dumbest stories in the New Testament--no small accomplishment.

"Withering" a tree for not producing fruit out of season makes ol' Jesus look not only childish and petulant, but dim-witted as well.

I'm not a Christian anymore either...that should be fairly obvious. But I'm somewhat grateful for being raised among Southern Baptists and a variety of Fundamentalist sects that would have put William James on the laughing gas for good. One relative used to drag me to the Fire-Baptized Pentecostal Holiness Church, where people frequently flopped around in the floor and jabbered in the Unknown Tongues.

On the positive side, it was the only church I ever attended which featured electric guitars along with the piano.

I'm grateful because I had probably read the whole Bible by the time I got to Seventh Grade. So when I decided to become a Grumpy Old Atheist, I certainly didn't do so out of ignorance.

In fact, doubts and questions were what started me on the road to atheism. I was immediately suspicious when my questions were answered with "You're not supposed to ask that."

I don't know which is better preparation for being an atheist--Fundamentalism or strict Roman Catholicism. They're probably about equal.

You know, it is times like this I am so glad I am not a Christian! I would be so pissed if people claiming to be in the same group as me acted this way. It is disgraceful. Not only do the manage to insult the religions of others, but their own!! Good job, you fucking wackos!

At this very moment, and since this disaster, REAL Christians jumped into action to help any way they could. Their first actions were not to condemn those lost, criticize others, or explain away this disaster. To those Christian Duers here that think you are under attack, you are! was first wanted by the FBI where I live. We were swamped with reporters. I'd watch the news and see people I'd never seen in my life. They interviewed idiots who weren't even from here and then did stories on how all the locals were rooting for him to elude the FBI. It was awful. I was working at a restaurant at the time and they were interviewing people in the parking lot. Some of the dish boys thought it would be really funny to make stuff up. Of course, they made the news as local sympathizers. :shrug:
