Only someone who never served would say that the veterans, particularly the Vietnam veterans, need to get over it re: the halfmast flag at Lambeau Field in honor of Reggie White.
While I don't like telling people how to mourn, I wouldn't dare tell a group of veterans upset at the break with flag protocol that they need to "get over it."
This from a conservative radio guy and one of his listeners.
They said that in particular Vietnam veterans needed to "get over" the war. The host said that half of them have, but that the other half were obsessed with the war and being miserable.
The veterans I've met would love to forget the war. It's not a matter of "getting over it." They would LOVE for the nightmares to stop. Do you think they WANT the thoughts of suicide?
Only someone who never served could say such things. How these people can talk say "Support the Troops" with a straight face is beyond me. They haven't a clue what that entails. And there will soon be a new crop of veterans unable to "get over it." You don't create that kind of trama without good reason, something we don't have in Iraq.
