The Clean Air & Water Acts, EPA, Endangered Speices Act, the opening to China and the negotiations with the USSR all come to mind when I think of Nixon. Now Bush II is reversing all of that work.

25. That is what I try to point out to all those wishful thinkers who say Bush

will fall like Nixon. But some of the progressive legislation during that period was introduced by Nixon himself. Clean Water Act- many of the health, Safety, and esp Enviro legislation came from Nixon.

I used that question in my congressional campaign

30 years ago, who would have thought we'd miss Nixon? But also back then, there was a creature called a "Moderate, and even a Liberal Republican. The Clean Air and Clean Water Acts were passed under him.

Now remember, I absolutely hated Nixon. I was with a bunch of Yippie's at his second inaugural when we threw 15,000 dead rats at his motorcade.

If you can ignore the Vietnam War and his paranoia, he did some good things. He actually created the EPA, which did a respectable job then. And he didn't try to destroy Social Security or Medicare. He opened diplomatic relations with China.
