My wife and I have written an open letter to the President and Prime Minister of India as it was brought to our attention that India may be contemplating associating the the US Administration on relief operations for the Tsunami disaster.

The rape of a tortured nation continues despite the human tragedy of that region."

As you say, I may be dumb, so an explanation would be helpful.

1. I do not think the American malAdministration should have anything to do with India in this relief effort.
2. The person appointed by pResident Bsh, Colin Powell, is a liar and and cannot be trusted.
3. India has stated openly that it does not need any help in this effort.
4. The UN has over US $500 million under the control of Kofi Annan, (without the US) so the piddling amount of US $ 35 million from the US SHOWS THE GREAT CONCERN OF THE GREAT NATION!!
5. I can visualise no-bid contracts going to favoured US companies when Bush sees those dollars rolling around in front oif his eyes.

I may be dumb - so maybe you could explain what is your take on this!!

3. Jacob, the sentiment is good but look at where India is right now

India depends heavily on US investment in the form of outsourced jobs. It provides a tremendous boost to the Indian economy. Additionally, the US is fully behind Pakistan in regards to the war on terror. The whole Pakistan/Indian arms race with nuclear weapons is a major issue here too. The end result is that India is in no place to risk alienating the US, no matter what they think of the US war in Iraq. And the US knows this.

6. India will get the outsourced jobs regardless

India has the scientific pool, it has the correct costs, it has the low cost of living, and it will not need American goodwill to keep its end up. It does not have to be in any way subservient to the US.

Also India does not need to open its arms to US as the US is in economic downfall - so what really can US offer to India. If the anti-outsourcing lobby wins in the US, as it should, then the problem will be India's if it follows along that line...

Further, US is propping up a military dictator, President Musharaff - pakistan is hardly a democracy!!

And India made a decision to not ask for outside help to handle the crisis as it could manage regadless.

Further, I do not see any reason to be party to collaborate with war criminals - that is my personal opinion.

The President and Prime Minister of India can do wahat it likes, but I will not sit quietly by and not draw their attention to what a citizen feels.

I am not a coward as, John Kerry, to accept a fraudulent election as the mass of American people. My grandfarther, the late K. C. Mammen Mappillai spent many years of suffering in prison fighting the British Imperialists and their sychophants so that India could gain freedom. I am not goiung to sit silently by when a group of Imperialists make a play to colonise that country once again.

4. You gotta be kidding me....

You are asking India to make some sort of symbolic gesture on the backs of its suffering people.

(And I thought India wasn't accepting aid anyway).

but it is thinking of working with the US Administration in the relief work - that is what we object to.

The US Administration is corrupt - so I think it will be a repeat of the no-bid contracts for Halliburton and co when it comes to work on the relief.

And have you heard how the US did not provide India and other countries the vital information prior to the disaster, Mike Malloy mentioned this at the start of his programme!!

The US maladministration needs India to lend credibility to its "stingy" relief effort.

Then the "educated" US citizens will boast for years and years of how much was given to aid this relief effort - as we are still hearing about the wheat which came to India in the 50's.

India does not need the US to carry out this relief effort. If US wants to help, let them join the UN and do it under the command structure of the UN where it will be a minor contributor.

5. This is the biggest crock I have ever seen on DU. Instead of rejoicing

that countries like India and U.S. are joining many other countries in providing relief to people in need, these letter writers seem to want to invent reasons for not wanting to help. Mind boggling!

I may be dumb - and maybe all of us Indians are dumb.

But better dumb than conspirators with the US maladministration and war criminals.

But maybe we are not as dumb as those Americans (all 110 million) who may accept a fraud as their pResident for a second time and cannot get ONE SENATOR to stand up and be counted!!!

However, the "coalition" declared by Bush is not about helping, but undermining the UN, hampering the co-ordination and only allows Bushistas - and some other Americans - to maintain their preciouss need to act self-important, self-awarding and generally bossy instead of concentrating on the work at hand.

I agree with Jacob that India should not lend it's support for this Bush charade.
