as simply not using the word hate.
There was a very ugly local politcal case where a radicalized repub couple followed around several elected democrats doing vandalism, serving trumped up "affidavits", and calling in (to the radical repub candidate for sherrif who was then a member of the state police, rather than to the local police) a "suspected DUI" - a local dem official. Dude didn't handle it well (and had been drinking) and a big court scene follows months later. The dem's political career is over. But during the case all sorts of stalking behavior was disclosed about this couple (who then went on to do serious dirty tricks in the most recent congressional election)...
When asked on the stand if she (the wife) hated the dem in question... she said "No, I'm a Christian, I love all people..."
Has stuck with me for a year. Actions don't matter. Stalking, vandalism, threats, slander, dirty tricks... all of that is done... in the name of love. Of course not. But as long as one doesn't say the WORD hate... then one actually is obeying God's desire to "love your neighbor" (ie other people.)
Anyone else ever notice this very funky definition - or should I say disconnect between what love suggests/means vs how it is acted out?
