Canadian foriegn affairs Minister says no Canadian troops in Iraq

KABUL - Canada will not contribute troops to any multinational force in Iraq, Bill Graham, the Foreign Affairs Minister, said yesterday, despite earlier offers of military and humanitarian assistance to post-war Iraq.

"At the moment, we are not contemplating sending troops to Iraq; we are fully engaged here in Afghanistan and we are fully engaged in other theatres," Mr. Graham said after a ceremony to open the new Canadian Embassy in Kabul.

There are 1,900 Canadian soldiers in the Afghan capital, part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), and Canada has promised $250-million in foreign aid to the war-ravaged Asian nation.
