WACO - For 1st Sgt. John F. Sampa's family, Saturday's ceremony marking the largest deployment of Texas National Guard troops since World War II was bittersweet.

The brigade is made up of dozens of armory-based units from throughout the state, including several hundred soldiers from the Houston area. They will be charged with helping to secure the Iraqi national elections slated for Jan. 30.

There was speculation that President Bush, who was vacationing at his ranch in nearby Crawford, might make an appearance, but his staff said the president did not want to put the families through the intense security screening that would be required for his visit.

I live in Cal and this state has sent the most. I was shocked to find that out. But I think they should send more Texans and red staters. After all, they voted for these maniacs.
