The OP in no way suggested that the administration is responsible for the earthquake and tsunamis, but I share the distrust and disgust in this administration's handling of the recent crisis.

And if other events should be any indication, the administration will do whatever it can in its power to take advantage of the crisis. That's almost a given.

Is it just me, or have you noticed quite a few people recently trying to subtly defend Bush in the aftermath of the earthquakes and tsunamis? While this isn't exactly the rally around the president effect of 9/11, I've got the impression that some have become defensive of this notion as the US being a very generous nation. It's become especially apparent after the UN official's statement about stinginess.

For example, I've seen several posts defending the amounts the administration has spent on the basis of the national debt alone. Amazing, but these same posts say nothing about the costs of Iraq and the bloated defense budget in general.

I'm tired of seeing even subtle defending of the Bush agenda. While I may believe this administration couldn't have CAUSED the disaster, I'm amazed at posts attacking other DUers for expressing their disbelief at the way this administration will handle it.

Thanks :) I enjoy your posts too. Yes, even though at times we may disagree, I believe the free exchange of ideas is too important to be determined by what "the other side thinks". I view this forum as a haven for those of us that are opposed to the direction Bush and the neo cons are taking this country...and I'm getting more tired of people defending the indefensable - and that includes the way this administration has handled the entire recent crisis in Asia (and for that matter Iraq and just about anything else as well).

I've been here for about a year and a half, so I remember the Saddam capture and Abu Ghraib quite well. I remember several posts defending the torture as being "pranks", echoing the words of Rush Limbaugh.

BTW what NYT editorial are speaking of? And what board are you speaking of (if the board is one that DU doesn't allow mentioned, you can PM it to me). Thanks.
