I have an idea why we Democrats are so ineffective.

Whenever a Senator or Congressman ventures off the reservation,the Republicans deliver a punishing blow to him either covertly or overtly.
We being more reasonable tend to argue and reason with people like Zell Miller and Joe Lieberman instead of punishing them for their transgressions.

That,in the end, makes all the difference. IMHO.

1. They have no backbones.

They pander to the bullies (repugs) so they won't get picked on.

2. There is a difference though

between having a backbone and eating your own. We can be a party of strength without having to resort to cannibalism. The strength of our party is the diversity it encompasses. Turning toward republican tactics will only further alienate our base. Rather like moving toward the center does.

as long as they're sucking from the corporate teat, they will NEVER reclaim their heritage as the party of the people . . . because being the party of the people requires that they fight against corporate governance, which they are unwilling to do so long as the corporate checks keep coming in . . .

5. Not sure what I am but I am no longer calling myself a Democrat.

It truly might be time to cultivate the moderate wing of the GOP.

If the DLC goes away I might reconsider. Right now I agree with OneBlueSky
