According to Atrios, more atrocities to come from Trent Lott: He's arranged for a performance of the #1 song on everyone's iPod, "Let the Wingnut Soar":

Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, announced details of the event Wednesday, including the musical performers at the Capitol and who will administer the oaths.

Guy Hovis, a vocalist from Tupelo, Miss., who performed on the Lawrence Welk show, will sing “Let the Eagles Soar,” a song written by Attorney General John Ashcroft.

Thomas Basile, a spokesman for the committee, said the song is a favorite of Lott’s.

10. Got it--I used a bad plug-in the first time.

Honest to God--that is beyond belief.

It's like a really bad SNL skit, only, you know, without any element of humor...only a queasy feel that I'd slipped into a parallel dimension--a sort of Bizarro world where the Attorney General was giving a maniacally bad lounge performance.

How do we even make fun of these people?

It's like they've transcended the plane of existence that can be subjected to ridicule and now reside on a whole new level of absurdity.
