Of course I first ordered Showtime for the exact purpose of watching QaF, but I only wound up keeping it as long as I did for another show that is far superior IMO - Soul Food.
While IMNSHO, one would have to look very hard to find even one redeemable feature to QaF. In a poll taken a while back, Michael scored as one of the most positive characters on TV and Brian as one of the most negative. If you ask me, neither one is all that. But at least Brian is street-smart and successful. I'd rather know what I'm doing than be a complete loser like Michael is.
Also, Gale Harold scored as one of People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People on TV". It just goes to show how fickle TV audiences are. They will just allow what they see to influence how they think. IMO, Gale is not good looking at all. But I'm sure the str8 women and gays alike just bought into the self-congratulatory hype the show puts on the Brian character enough to brainwash them into believing the actor was actually a good looking man. I tell ya, TV audiences - not the most independent bunch around...
Just about the only QaF episodes I'd recommend were the episode where Lindsey and Melanie got married and the one right before that. Other than that, I hope this show gets put out of its misery soon. It's a shame that people credit this show with putting gay issue on the table when I feel that shows with one gay character out of an ensemble of mostly str8 characters expose gay issues to audiences that wouldn't normally watch it. Those shows such as Six Feet Under, Buffy, Dawson's Creek etc are far superior to this self-loathing pile of mish mash.
It's a shame that the producers themselves and some of the actors such as Peter Paige (I really don't like him) are too clueless to understand that this show doesn't really do the gay population in this country all that much good at all.
When I air these views out with people who watch this show, not too shockingly they don't get it. They assume I think the show sucks because it has too much sex in it? (What use is all that sex if the lead characters are all so ugly, anyway?) My problem with this show is how it's handled, how it's written, and how bitchy the main characters are. No one seems to get it.
Anyway, obviously I can't comment on this "DC 911" thing... are you saying that the show pulled a variation of 9/11 that took place in Washington D.C.? Well if so I hope that means that the tackiness and sensationalism of this show has finally caught up with it and it will be enough to bring this show under. When are we going to get a real show with gay leads? The way I see it, the closest thing we've come to it is Six Feet Under.
