Our media whores are stripping a gear to get to Southeast Asia and compete with fellow whores for the biggest horror/tear jerking/shock story on the disaster. The result is this country being swept up in all sorts of fundraising and sympathy for the victims. There is nothing wrong with those efforts.
However, that same media which is freely showing dead bodies and video of people being swept to their deaths, have refused to show death and destruction up close in the Iraq War saying that it is too "graphic" (read that as "might make people think and turn against this administration"). There are over 100,000 people dead there, too.
We love to be fed the image that we are a great, compassionate nation who just love to help others in need and the media is feeding us the disaster because it makes us feel so good about ourselves. They don't feed us Iraq because it reminds us that we are killers. All those people are dead because WE started a bogus war. This nation lives in such a state of denial and fantasy. Maybe that's why it's going to be so easy for the Republicans to now destroy the Middle Class for good while the fools cheer it on; and maybe that destruction will finally bring a cold dose of reality to these fools.
