Forget Hillary Clinton. Anyone Want to Begin a Draft Boxer Movement?

Senator Barbara Boxer is one of the very few who continues to make me proud that I am a Democrat, that justifies even staying with the Party at all.

She's got a whole new six years now and her seat is safe. Hillary Clinton, who is the Party favorite still has a Senate race to deal with and, I believe, is another ticket to a train wreck for the Democrats and we are walking right into it all over again. As NothingShocksMeAnymore pointed out here, Senator Boxer won the biggest landslide of any Democrat in 2004. Landslide. Sounds good, doesn't it?

The most courageous leadership in the nation, the voice that continually speaks truth to power, the one dependable champion for the people over the stranglehold of multinationals is Senator Barbara Boxer.

From this moment on, I will be posting here in support for Senator Boxer to consider running for the Presidency in 2008. Call me quixotic, I really don't care.

I am going to support someone that I believe in, someone that has the record, not just promises.

she's way too liberal for the mainstream. I would love to see her on a ticket for VP - I would love to see her run for President, but we have to be realistic - Hell, people think Hillary is liberal, but compared to Boxer, Hillary is a light-weight liberal. I love Boxer and want her to remain in politics but in a position that really counts, not a defeated presidential candidate. Go, Boxer.

the problem is that folks need to understand that liberals are:

Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.

Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.

Tending to give freely; generous: a liberal benefactor.


If everyone was being truthful with themselves, they would answer that if they were the ones in a predicament beyond their control(be it through no fault of their own or by God's pleasure-if they believe such), they would rather society treat gently and compassionately with them rather than harshly, which the conservatives believe should be the only route available to people impacted by events out of their control.

What we need to stop doing is running away from being liberal--and to reclaim the definition of the word---because when you put the definition to people, they understand that when it comes down to it, liberally is the way they truly would rather be treated.

The last thing we need is more of a shift towards republican-democrats... the whole field is tipping over to the right because there is no one willing to stand on the left and provide balance.

Cheer up. It's the women who are winning for Democrats. You write "to expect a democratic female to win the presidency is not going to happen," but I think it is precisely just the opposite.

It seems it is the men who keep delivering us to loss after loss.

Boxer won a landslide in California. It's women who are winning for Democrats, not men. That's the evidence.

There is the mistaken belief that if Al Gore had embraced Bill Clinton more he would have been president. I think that had Al Gore let Bill Clinton be impeached and not rallied to defend his blowjobs in the Oval Office, Gore --- who would have become President after the impeachment --- would have easily won the 2000 race. Hands down.

Gore fell on the sword of Clinton's bad behavior and in doing so lost his chance to be President.

Gore didn't lose because he didn't embrace Clinton enough, but I think because he didn't express outrage publicly about Clinton's sorry behavior.

Bill Clinton hurt the Democratic Party. I like Bill, but that is the hard truth...a truth that many here just can't swallow.

23. You might be oversimplifying about Gore.

In a way, you're probably right in retrospect--had he wholeheartedly denounced Clinton's behavior and worked the Dems to get Clinton convicted, then he could've ridden a wave of popular sentiment (after the Dems gained those seats in the '98 midterms, especially) to election in 2000. It's an interesting take, not heard often these days.

But that DOESN'T mean those who say Gore should have embraced Bill Clinton more are completely off base. Had Gore swung completely the other way--a much more "stay the course" kind of campaign featuring Billy-Jeff front and center--that, too could have worked.

If I've learned anything from these last two elections, it's that Americans don't do subtle. They don't do nuanced, or sensitive. They do big, stupid, all-encompassing. Gore didn't have that. Nor did Kerry. I love both those guys, but we were fighting big, stupid, all-encompassing with subtle, nuanced, sensitive (yes, much of that was defined by the MSM but it wasn't ALL their doing.)

34. It Does Make Sense.

I'm not suggesting that Gore should have worked to have him impeached, but he could have resoundingly criticized him and counseled him to step down. A newly installed Al Gore who was secure in Americans minds with regards to his fidelity to Tipper would have whooped the mousey frat boy from Texas even more than he did in 2000.

In retrospect, Clinton defending his "principle" was really only defending his own ass. His blow job took down the entire Democratic Party. And no one defended Clinton at the time more than me. I should have called for his stepping down and turning the helm over to a new President Gore.

...party for a Boxer ticket. Barbara Boxer is my senator and I think she's magnificent. Hillary Clinton will galvanize the right like never before-- she's Karl Rove's dream candidate-- but Barbara Boxer would be a much better choice in that she's a real liberal and not ashamed of it, AND she's much less likely to be a lightning rod for the RW hate-mongers.

Being from the east coast she does not get much attention here. I do see her as a talking head from time to time.

I was going to post how I am not interested in her and that she has no chance, but thinking on it a little who else do we have that has "great chances"? And please do not say Obama, a guy who has not even really started his first term in the senate.

If she stands for what she believes in AND more importantly can rally the non-political majority to her then I would glady throw my support and my money behind her..

33. Before we go to war with the rebus lets start buy cleaning our ownn house

that included Clinton and Kerry. All these guy want is to not upset the apple cart in order to impact on their fund raising. Before we go to war with the rebubs, we need to start getting our own house in order and that means start getting rid of some of our own dead weights.

Why don’t we start an email campaign and use this issue as a test. Ask your state senator the following. "What have you done to preserve the electoral process in this country? Did you support the representative initiative to look into voter irregularities?" With the exception of Boxer the answer is no. Then end the email by stating that as a life long democrat I will not be supporting you in the next election and will vigorously support your democratic opponent.
