I think that it is stupid, by anyone, to pick one post and to make a big deal out of it. This is the power of the Internet: people post anonymously and often just what come to their mind. I know that the WSJ's "best of the web" loves to quote outrageous posts from here which is really a low blow. I should not complain, though; this is how I first found this site..
On many message boards, there are some that first compose their messages on a word processing program, check it for grammar and spelling and then post. Most of us, however, just write directly, "warts and all."
Thus, for any serious news organization that often runs its own message board to make a major issue for someone's musing means either a hidden agenda or that it has been a slow news day and someone was under a deadline. Does the NYT have a readers' rep?
Second, with all the freepers mentioning that Muslims deserve it, that they did not follow their darling Coulter's opinion to convert to Christianity - to catch only on a post here is really duplicity. OK, this is redundant for Fox but for the NYT?
