Why the hell is this quack still with a license?
Florida Doctor Could Lose License After Waukesha Woman Dies During Surgery
Expert: Julie Rubenzer Had Respiratory Arrest
SARASOTA, Fla. -- A woman who stopped breathing during breast enlargement surgery and later died was given excessive amounts of anesthesia, an expert testified at a hearing on whether the doctor should keep his license.
Dr. Kurt Dangl, 43, who is not a board-certified anesthesiologist, administered as much as five times the normal amount of the sedative propofol to Julie Rubenzer, who had already been given a host of other sedatives, the expert testified during a hearing before an administrative law judge.
Rubenzer, 38, never woke up after the September 2003 surgery in Dangl's office. Her family in Waukesha, Wis., brought her home and she died in a nursing home there Dec. 26, 2003.
"She was given a lot of drugs up front," said Dr. Joan Christie, an anesthesiologist who reviewed the case and testified Wednesday. "When you put the propofol on top of it, that's when the problems occur."
A second expert, Port St. Lucie plastic surgeon Dr. Donato Viggiano, also agreed with Christie that an "overuse" of medications, and particularly a dangerous amount of propofol, caused Rubenzer to have a respiratory arrest.
