For those that are having weird weather or temperatures please report in this thread. Include your location. I'm trying to get a feel for what the hell is going on.

Here is my story.

Since the week before x-mas the weather has been strange. We got 20 inches of snow two days before christmas. It started with snow furries then raining ice then back to snow. Well, that wasn't so bad. And not to weird. The temps were running in the teens and about 10 below at night. Five days after this snow storm which lasted two days we had 60 degree weather. Then it started to rain. I am not kidding when I tell you it has rained everyday since. We have so much rain that everything is flooding. The storm drains are at max capacity. They are forecasting more rain all next week. Sunday is the only day they say it won't rain. The temps are mid 50's to 60 in the day and drop to around 35 at night. Normally this time of year I dread going outside because of the bitter north winds. Not now. This is the most bizarre weather I have ever seen. I live in the Ohio valley and we get weird weather but nothing like this. I'm in Southern Indiana. Let me know what is going on where you are at.

Flooding and ice at the same time! Definitely weird. I asked in my own post and I will ask here: is this an El Nino year?

3. Could the Tsunami have any effect?

Or the earthquake that caused the Tsunami? any evidence of such events effecting weather paterns.....

Here in OR, raining w/ snow mixed, very cold the past 2 weeks.
Lots of seagulls in the city, so we know the coast is bad.

The sea level will likely rise in the region, but that is a function of the plates subsiding.

El Nino occurs in 4 year cycles - 1998 was the year El Nino became a household name...the next El Nino should occur in 2006

But has ranged 2 to 7 years.

97-98 was the last big El Nino with the previous one being 94-95.

2. Almost no snow here in Minnesota (near Minneapolis). We got some

the other day, not a lot, but the temp's been going up and down lately, too. We had 50 degrees (50 degree weather in MN in January?!), then back down to 0, then up to 30, back down, back up, and today it was up. Odd.

4. Pretty normal where I am

Northern California. Lots of rain, which is typical for the winter. But our summers lately have been way warmer than normal. We used to have lots and lots of fog. That's just not true anymore. We still get some, but not nearly as much.

6. I'm not sure this could be considered weird, given the month,

but it is raining like a mother in San Rafael. We're 20 minutes north of San Francisco, and it started raining around 10PM Thursday and continued through the night. Friday afternoon it let up for several hours, but it's dumping again.

There was a post yesterday that we (the US) were supposed to be slammed by 3 different large weather events this weekend, in case you missed it.

9. 45 Minutes South of SF

We've had over an inch of rain in the last week or so; LA's had something like 400% of normal rainfall. I think we're all still under flood/wind watch for tonight as the storm gears up again for the weekend, but it should stop by Tuesday.

You can take the girl out of the Midwest, but not the Midwest out of the girl... (we talk about the weather a lot in the Midwest because there's so goddamned much of it).

11. Downpours Ride In on a Jet Stream

More rain has fallen in Los Angeles over the last three months — 15.68 inches — than normally falls in an entire year, making this the wettest start to a rainy season since 1966.

Now, forecasters expect a storm coming from the north and drawing moisture from warmer southern waters to dump up to 15 inches of rain in the mountains and up to 5 inches in Los Angeles beginning today and continuing through the weekend.

Happens every so often; El Nino I think.

I am so glad I'm not in my hometown, where they are having perfectly normal weather (had an ice storm a few days ago).

8. I'm on the northeast coast of Massachusetts

It sounds like we're having the same weather pattern as you.

We had a bunch of the day after Christmas.. like a foot. They hadn't even predicted it - called it "ocean effect snow". Then we got the storm that dumped 20 inches in OH. Two days later, it was 60 degrees. Followed that pattern for three days. Then back to 20 degrees and cloudy. For the past few days it was cold and cloudy - snow yesterday. Today about 45, and tomorrow we're getting another snow storm.

Strange patterns indeed.

19. Last month Green Bay, WI. area was weird with 60 degree temperature

variations within 48 hours from shirtsleeves into "the frozen tundra" with icy jet streams of arctic air and wind chills around -30F or colder. Cabin fever time for a week through 10 days in North East Wisconsin in December.
After that we got rain that immediately turned to ice causing 100's of accidents in the past several weeks and recently a foot of snow, that isn't getting plowed by the City very well.

20. Supposedly, three rare weather events

will coincide next week making for the wierdest weather yet. The Ohio Valley is supposed to bear the brunt of it, I think. I don't remember details, but I've seen several references to it lately.

21. Almost no snow on Olympic Mountains, and Cascades, and strange

snow patterns with the Coast getting some, even at sea level, along with Bellingham (Whatcom county, far north edge with canada). Rain.

but, what was quite unexpected was we went from deep freeze (for us) of about 28 degrees with ground frozen down about 2 inches, to 50 degrees in about 20 minutes. So fast , not everything warmed up at same rate so ice still remained in spite of the 50 degrees. Up until the rains settled in.

THis is not a a december rain pattern, more like late sept/oct pineapple express. very warm here now.

22. I live in the Lake Ontario snow belt

and today is the first day since Christmas that the grass has been covered. For comparison, we usually have about 18" of packed snow by now with more on the way. What's there this morning should melt this afternoon when the temperature goes bak up into the 40's.

24. It has been really warm in the NYC region

I remember this time last year being stuck in my apartment because it was either snowing buckets or below zero, for the whole month!

On the opposite end of wierd weather, I was in my hometown in TN over the holidays at it was 50 to 65 degrees there every day. We went to a playground wearing sandals. That's unseasonable, even for the south!
